Crochet Beanie Frenzy

I went on a crochet beanie frenzy in December before Christmas. I made about eight hats!!

Below are the pictures and patterns I used. I only took pictures of five of the hats.

The first hat was for a teenage boy who wanted these colors.
I also used this pattern to make his dad a beanie in a green color with wool yarn.

This was a special request from my neighbor.
It was made with 100% Wool and the black is Kid Mohair Silk- fancy!!
I used the same pattern as above.

This beanie I made for my little man.
I also used this pattern to make a 4 year old a hat in the same color yarn as the first beanie.
(The link to the pattern is underlined in the middle of the page)

I made my lover a beanie using super bulky yarn in gray.
He needed something to keep him warm at work since he works outside.
I just couldn't find a pattern I like for the super bulky yarn so I used a basic beanie pattern as a guide.
(I used half double crochet's)
I constantly kept asking him to measure the hat and I think it turned out okay!

This one is also for my neighbor in her favorite color: lime green.
I used this pattern to make my dad a navy blue hat too.

Now I only  need to make myself one!

Super Soft Sugar Cookies

These are to die for cookies. I loved these and so did everyone else.
It's Always Autumn has the recipe on her blog. Make sure you read her very helpful tips towards the bottom of her post.

These are just like the ones you buy at the store but much more budget friendly.

I prepped all my ingredients:

I rolled out the dough with my hands (more like pressed) and
made them half an inch thick (not the 3/4 inch):
Make sure to use lots of flour. The dough will stick to the counter if you don't.
(I used my sons drinking cup to cut out the circles. I know, sooo professional)

10 min in the oven and voila!!
Don't over bake them!

I whipped up the frosting, frosted the cookies, and they are done!

First Projects of the Year

Once again, I've been MIA and I'm truly sorry for that. We moved to Arizona in hopes of a new future but ends up being we were wrong so we humbly moved back to Idaho. Nothing says FAIL like that move. We learned that we can't rely on others and from our mistakes we now know what we need to do. Thankfully, we are in a very cute place in Idaho and enjoying our lives as we are now standing tall and taking action for what we want.

With that said Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!!

I'm not a huge believer in New Years resolutions;we should always be reevaluating ourselves and changing on a daily basis not just once a year. With that said, I still gave myself a resolution:
52 Projects in a Year!!
I want to keep creating things so I love the idea of having to make something once a week. I'm always coming across with new ideas or recipes on Pinterest so here is my opportunity to tap into the 3.6k pins I have pinned!

We are well into the second week of January so I'll be postin what I've made this week later but for now here's what I've made the first week of January.

Crochet Fingerless Gloves by

They are perfect and just what I was looking for. This was also a great project to use up a major portion of his yarn that seems to have been in my stash for too long.

I also finally brought out my sewing machine from storage and used it to  hem a pair of pants for my friend's dad.
(I didn't take a pic) :(

That definitely striked my motivation to sew something again.

See you soon!

Couponing for Week of Aug. 25 2013

This has seriously been long over due.
So sorry my lovely friends. I have major changes happening in my life right now that have been taking up all my time in every aspect possible. With due time, I'll let you know what changes are taking place.

For now, though....
Couponing!!

I got the opportunity to coupon in Phoenix. Anytime I do long stays in any other place than Idaho I am super stoked to see what kind of deals I can get. So nerdy of me, I know.

I scoped out Target, CVS, and Walgreens for these amazing deals:

Can you believe I got all of that ^^ for about $19 AFTER tax??!!
I was quite blown away myself. This was seriously the best I've done yet so far.

Instead of fidgeting with the details I'll have you take a look at the receipts themselves.

I did two transctions at Walgreens so I could use the
Catalina coupon on my second transaction.

Also, be patient with the apps at Target (I used 3), the cashiers usually are, but the people behind you aren't. Stay confident, keep smiling, and watch their eyes bulge out of their face in amazement that your total started out as $30 plus and you only paid $8.  :)

I did have a few flops, I forgot to use my ShopKick app to get free gummy bears at Target and I forgot my Charmin coupons for free toilet paper at CVS.
But nonetheless, I still got GREAT deals!

And yes, these are all items my family uses. :)

I'm so excited for a few more upcoming projects I have to share with you.
Here is a sneak peak!
Stay tuned to find out what I'm making with these supplies!!

MIA

I promise I haven't forgotten about you!
My family and I are in a middle of a huge move.
To be exact we are moving from Idaho to Arizona but we are leaving everything behind except for the essentials. So hang in there, I have a few exciting projects and some Pinspired projects.

Much love!

Snickerdoodle Cookies

It looks like you found me...having cookies with my coffee. SO healthy right?!?

Oh my! I can't begin to tell you how deeeelicious these cookies were. I was a sneaky sneak and had waaay more than I should have for one day!

I was in the mood for making cookies and I remember I had pinned this recipe not too long ago.

cookie1
Michelle over at Our Three Peas has the best recipe for these Snickerdoodle Cookies.

Don't they look so yummy?? Well I ate several of these while the last batch baked and then the morning after I had two more with my coffee and then one more as a snack on my morning walk with my son. Even Preston (the boyfriend) loved these and had more than one.
You will soon learn that I love to bake and when one bakes too much, your family stops eating all these scrumptious fattening treats. So when Preston had three as soon as they cooled down I, literally, jumped up and down shouting "you ate some!!".
I know, I'm a nerd. Nothing makes me happier than someone loving something I cooked or baked.

Surprisingly, I followed just about all of her directions and they turned out great! They were so easy to make too.
The only thing I changed was the cinnamon/sugar mix used to roll the cookies in before baking. I added one more tablespoon of sugar because I like less cinnamon.

Soft Snickerdoodle Cookies** makes approx. 4 dz. 2 in cookies
  • 1 c. softened unsalted butter
  •  3/4 c brown sugar
  • 3/4 c white granulated sugar
  • 2 lg. eggs
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 t. cream of tarter
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 3T sugar & 3 t. cinnamon for rolling
1. preheat oven to 350
2. Cream butter and sugars in the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, add eggs in one at a time.
3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cream of tarter, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients slowly to the butter mix. Mix well.
4. ****Important step: CHILL the dough in the fridge for about 10 minutes. This helps to keep the cookie’s shape while baking.
5. While the dough is chilling, in a small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for rolling the cookies in and I like to line the cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. This prevents the cookies from sticking and helps them to cook more evenly.
6. When the dough is chilled, I like to use a cookie scooper and make 1 in. balls of dough. Drop and roll them in the sugar and place on the pan 2 in. apart, don’t overcrowd the cookie sheet. Using the cookie scooper prevents you from handling the dough too much, thus helping to keep it cool and prevent it from spreading on the pan when they are baking.
7. Bake 10-11 minutes per batch, remove from cookie sheet right away and let cool on a wire rack.

Go ahead, give these a try! I dare you!
and let me know what you think.

Patchwork Coasters

Patchwork? You heard it right! I'm usually one that hates little pieces of fabric. I've always thought that the less to cut, the better. Turns out I'm wrong because I loooved making these Coasters. I used Foo Fanagle's Simple Coasters as inspiration and then I made it Mata. What does that mean, you ask? It means that I just made it my own and only used this tutorial as guidance.

Keep reading to see how they turned out!

So cute right? I looove them! they go perfect with my sewing machine cover I made not too long ago.

(here is the link to the pattern that I used from Diary of a Crafty Lady)

Foo Fanagle's tutorial for the coasters was so easy to follow!!! But I didn't want to make mine just like hers so I cut out different sizes for the smaller squares and this is the result:

(front)

Also, I love to clash patterns. It's just what I do. And I used my vintage fabric that I found for a great price at the thrift shop.

(back)

All of my coasters are matching except I threw an odd ball in there and used this cute kitty fabric. I love kitties and wish I could get one but my son is still too young.

I had lots of fun making these and making these doesn't require much sewing skills. This should be an hour project but with my son and working it turned out to a day and a half project. Despite my frequent breaks, this project was easy and fast.

Go ahead and give them a try! Let me know how they turn out!

Week 29

You can say that I waited until the last minute for week 29 or week of 7/14/13 to coupon. I went on Friday and Saturday instead of earlier in the week.
I only made it to Target and Albertsons this week but I got some good deals!
Oh! and I made it to Rosauers too which isn't on any couponing website/ blog that I am aware of so that is a store I look for deals on my own.

My first trip of the week to Target was awesome! I paid 13.05 (before tax) and saved  about $20.
(below the pic is the break down of my Target shopping trip)

(from left to right)
Market Pantry Gummies on sale for $1.25 each- $1 off coupon= $0.75 ea
Lindt Chocolate Bars on sale 2/$4- 2 coupons each $1off= $1 ea
Velveet Skillet Meals on clearance for $1.24 ea- 2 coupons each for $1 off= $0.24 ea!!!!
Skinny Cow Ice cream bars regular price $3.99 - $1off target mobile coupon & $1 off manufacturer coupon & 5% Cartwheel (Target's mobile app)= $1.84
Cherry Pepsi on sale for $3.00- 10% Cartwheel= $2.85
Skintimate and Edge Shave Gels had the same discounts: $2.64 each- $.55 manufacturer coupon & $1 Target mobile coupons & !0% Cartwheel= $.93 each AND Edge shave gel has a 50 cent Ibotta so that one came out to 43 cents!!
Neosporin Wound Cleanser $3.36 with $2 coupon= $1.36
and
Wet Ones on sale for $1.39- .75 coupon & .50 target mobile coupon- 10% Cartwheel= 60 cents!
(I think next time I'll just take a pic of the receipt so you can see the savings for each item and that these crazy savings are actually real *pinch me*)

Can you say super savings!!! I was very proud of myself because Target has 4 different ways you can save (manufacturer coupon, target coupon, target mobile app, and their Cartwheel percentage off app) so going there stresses me out. Except this time it wasn't as stressful as I expected. I'm definitely going back without fear!

Albertsons was easy because they're having "Cash in you Quarters" sale.

I got 4 cans of tomato sauce for  25 cents each and 2 boxes of Popsicle firecracker pops for 75 cents each!!

I saved $2.84 and paid $2.50!!

Then onto Rosauers ( I'm still not sure how to say it) I got grapes for 99 cents a pound (not shown in pic)!!! I def maxed out the 5 pound limit because I can freeze the extra, if there is any because Tanner has decided to be a grape lover during these hot summer days.

I got two 50 pack of straws for 79 cents each and 2 loofahs on sale 2 for $1.00!!!

Savings of at least $6.36!!

I finished this week of couponing a happy camper!

Most of these items are, of course, extra things for my family so at the moment it seems hard to fork out the money but in the long run I'm saving my family a lot of money. I love knowing I'm not paying full price for most things that we use AND I enjoy couponing much more knowing how much I can save.

Did you do any couponing this week? What did you get?

Couponing 101

Couponing can be very confusing, stressful, embarrassing  or overwhelming if you don't know how it works. I've gathered some information and answering some questions to ease these emotions and hopefully encourage more of you to jump on the bandwagon and save money!

1. How do you organize your coupons/ what is your set up?

I follow a lot of what The Krazy Coupon Lady has to offer regarding my set up and how I coupon. They have a a beginners section where you can get started in 10 days. If you're anything like me that is waaay too long! I took their advice as just a guide to getting started. I have my 3 inch binder with labeled tabs (I visualized the stores I go to and labeled my coupons according to how the stores are split up), baseball card holders, and envelopes.

Yes, envelopes, I finally realized that I may not always have my binder super organized so I use the envelopes for the larger coupons and so I don't have paper flying everywhere every time I pick it up.

2. Keeping track of expired coupons

Unfortunately, I don't really  have any kind of elaborate set up. When I'm searching for a coupon I quickly glance at the other coupon's expiration dates and just pull the expired ones. I also just keep a mental note of when coupons typically expire. I also go through my binder once a month and toss out the expired coupons. When I notice that some coupons may be expiring soon, I move them to the front pocket and look for deals right away, if I don't have any use for them, I toss them when they expire, but NEVER before.

3.. What deals do you go for?

Typically I go for deals that will benefit my family. For example, We are a family of 3 (mom, dad, and baby), so I'd never get anything for pets. Also, I try not to stock up on items that I don't use or need such as hamburger helper. I don't care how cheap it is, I'm not buying it because it will just sit in my pantry forever! Yes, I know I can stock up on items I don't use because it's a good deal and donate them but I now myself and I already have a lot on my plate and those items will NOT make it anywhere past the trunk of my car. I coupon for what my family and I use: shampoo, laundry detergent, toothpaste, diapers, wipes, cereal.

If I want to get something new that we have never tried before, I ask Preston (not Tanner since he's only one) if it's something he's willing to try. If so, I buy it; if not, I dont bother. That leads me to the next thing: stocking up. I never stock up more than we can handle. For example, right now Albertson's has 3 pounds of strawberries for $3.99- awesome deal- but I know we won't eat more than those 3 pounds before they go bad so as much as I want to get 3 containers, I only bought one, maybe 2 if I want to freeze it. Cereal is another example of stocking up; I never buy more than 3 boxes of cereal at a time. Cereal gets a funky taste if it sits for too long even if it hasn't expired, same goes for frozen foods. I stock up within reason, as you should too because then you're just wasting money by having to throw away expired or bad food.

4. How do I find deals?

Honestly, I mostly use The Krazy Coupon Lady and Keep Calm & Coupon On (this is for Idaho deals so find a local couponer's FB page, blog, or webpage). The great thing about couponing today is that so many are doing it that they get paid to find the deals that's why I use their blogs. Clipping coupons alone is already time consuming so why not let someone else find those good deals for you? I still look at the ads in case something on sale catches my eye but they usually have it spot on so I click on their links and find the coupons in my binder or it will take me to the website where I can print off coupons. That is when I choose deals according to each store I coupon at (currently at Walmart, Dollar Tree, Albertsons, Fred Meyer, sometimes Target, and rarely Walgreens). I don't go to every store every week, it just depends on my work schedule and the deals they're having.

5.Stacking coupons?

I love going to Target, which is the only place I coupon at that accepts stacking coupons. Sometimes I go to Walgreens but only if they're having a killer deal otherwise, couponing there makes me nervous and irritated because of their point system and register rewards and such, I just don't like couponing there. But Target, on the other hand, I'm willing to go to any day especially with multiple coupons. Make sure you are prepared and have everything ready before you venture out because other wise you'll be frustrated or won't get the deal you were hoping for.

6. What I do when deals don't work out while I'm at the store?

I always go to a store with the expectation of not finding every product I wanted to coupon for. Sometimes other couponers grab all the items that I was going for as well, so I just move onto the next item on the list. I don't stress or worry about it because sales have a cycle and that deal will most likely come up again.

One thing to keep in mind, is to not be embarrassed or ashamed that you have to use coupons. You are saving your family money and that's what counts. Don't let others discourage you. You will get rude cashiers, bad looks, and angry customers because you're slowing down the lines. Walk in to the store with your head up high, smile on your face, because you're about to get 30 dollars worth of stuff for 6 bucks!!

Feel free to ask any questions!!!

Couponing Week 28

Why week 28? Well that's the week of the year (doesn't everyone know that??) and the way I keep track of my couponing. I usually coupon on a Tuesday or Wednesday but I work everyday this week so I went on a Sunday. Now, let my tell you why this never happens. Sunday's are when the new ads and coupons in the Sunday paper comes out. AKA the day everyone in Idaho coupons. They're all in a hurry to get the best deals first and stores are just chaotic and that plainly stresses me out. I put my big girl panties on, got my coupons ready the night before, and ventured out with Tanner, my son (oh boy!!).

First stop, Walgreens.
I didn't get much here but I did save $14.20; that's a 65% savings!!

Here is the break down:
Transaction 1: Crest Mouthwash regular price $4.99 on sale for $2.99 with $1.10/1 coupon, I paid $1.89 (before taxes) and I got a register rewards for $1.25.
Transaction 2: was the same as the first for the second bottle of mouthwash.
Transaction 3: Huggies diapers regular price $11.99 on sale for $8.99 with $3/1 coupon and the 2 popcorn bags regular price 2 for $.99 on sale for $.25 each with the in-ad coupon. I used the 2 register rewards for $1.25 each so I paid $3.99 before tax.

All of this I only paid $7.77 when the bag of diapers along on sale was $8.99!!

I was so excited about all of my savings that I had to keep going.

Next stop, Walmart.
Walmart isn't complicated like Walgreens with the register rewards, in-ad coupons, and limits on the amount of coupons per item. So the break down here is simple.

Reddi-Wip regular price $2.19 roll back price $1.99 with a coupon $1/1= .98
Simply Lemonade $2.00 with .75/1 coupon- $1.25
Milk $2.38 with $1/1 coupon= $1.38
Yogurt 4 @.54 each: $2.16 with $1/4 = $1.16
Relish each .98 with $1/1= .02 (for each) in my pocket!!!
Venus Razors $5.97 each with 2: $5/1 coupon= .97 each!!

All of this at the regular price would be $26.20, I paid $6.45.
Saved $19.75, that's a 75% savings!!

Woot! Woot! Raise the roof!
(oh wait, that's not cool anymore haha)

If you can only imagine my excitement walking out of Walmart after such great trips!!

Don't you forget that this whole time I have my 13 month old son with me and let me tell you, children (and most men) don't understand that I need to take my time to make sure I get the best deals. But so far, Tanner has been great so we headed straight to Dollar Tree for some free toothpaste (I may have pushed it here but it was a quick run, I promise!).

Yup, these suckers are only $1 at Dollar Tree and Walmart has them for $2.99 so even if you don't have a coupon, this is a great deal. But it wouldn't be me shopping if there isn't a coupon involved.

$1/1 coupon and I had 3 coupons so I got these for free.

YEAH!!!

So after my incredulous savings, I happily drove home and paced around my house so stoked!!

Its only Thursday and I have yet to get some other good deals, I'll keep ya posted. I'll also have another post coming up about couponing in general and I'll answer questions that you make have or that I'm asked about couponing.

Welcome

After much thought I've decided to join the blogger world. I'm super stoked to show everyone what I love do to: sewing, cooking, and couponing. But it's not limited to just that. I love making and creating things especially if I see them on Pinterest (don't we all). So join me in my adventures!

P.S. Thank you Amy H. for helping me with the title to my blog and Chelsey for giving me the courage to start a blog, can't wait to link up with you!
